How to Install WPSEC Security on Your WordPress Site

Installing WPSEC Security takes just a few minutes. This tutorial walks you through the complete process from installation to your first security scan.

Step 1: Install the Plugin

  1. Log into your WordPress admin panel.
  2. Navigate to Plugins → Add New.
  3. Type WPSEC Security in the search box.
  4. Find the plugin in the results and click Install Now.
  5. After installation completes, click Activate.

Step 2: Open the Dashboard

After activation, click WPSEC Security in the admin sidebar. The dashboard loads with your initial security assessment.

Step 3: Review Your Security Score

Your initial security score reflects the current state of your WordPress installation. Most sites start between 40-60%. Do not worry — this will improve as you apply hardening recommendations.

Step 4: Run Your First Scan

  1. Go to the Hardening tab.
  2. Click Run Scan.
  3. Review the findings sorted by severity.
  4. Apply the recommended fixes starting from the highest priority.

Step 5: Verify Firewall Status

Go to the Firewall tab and confirm the firewall shows as Active. The firewall starts automatically but it is good practice to verify.
