Scheduling Automated Security Scans with WPSEC
Automated security scans ensure your WordPress site is continuously monitored for new vulnerabilities and configuration drift.
Why Schedule Scans
Your security posture changes constantly:
- Plugin and theme updates can introduce new vulnerabilities
- Configuration changes may weaken security settings
- New attack vectors emerge regularly
- File integrity can be compromised silently
Scheduled scans catch these changes before attackers can exploit them.
Setting Up Scheduled Scans
- Go to WPSEC → Settings → Scans.
- Enable Scheduled Scanning.
- Choose a frequency:
- Daily — Best for high-traffic or business-critical sites.
- Weekly — Recommended for most sites.
- Custom — Set a specific schedule using cron intervals.
- Select which scan types to include.
- Enable email notifications for new findings.
Scan Types
- Hardening scan — Checks configuration and best practices.
- Malware scan — Scans files for known malicious signatures.
- Integrity check — Verifies WordPress core file integrity.
Reviewing Scan Results
After each automated scan, results are available in WPSEC → Hardening. If email notifications are enabled, you will receive a summary of any new findings.
Consistent automated scanning is one of the most effective security practices you can implement. Set it up once and let WPSEC monitor your site continuously.
